The best laid plans and all that

What no wife of a writer can ever understand is that a writer is working when he’s staring out of the window – Burton Rascoe

Well, as they say, life is what happens while we’re busy making plans. Having set myself some stretching but reasonable goals for this blog, a winter bug came in and knocked me sideways. Or maybe two, my symptoms seemed to change part way through.

In that time my uncle has been declared free of cancer, my nephew has been diagnosed as definitely having either Crohn’s Disease or Colitis  and a good friend has safely delivered child number three (another boy if you are interested).

Life – as always a mixed bag.

I’ve lost a week and a half to bed, lethargy and general feeling nasty ness. I basically cancelled life and checked out of everything – I couldn’t even face reading! The really interesting thing though is that, while my conscious self and body may have gone on retreat, my subconscious seems to have been working overtime. Some really interesting ideas have started to surface and I need to work them through.

As a starter, you’re going to see some changes to things on the blog – how it’s structured, what I’m talking about – and I’m going to take the next step and actually start to invite people to come and read it. So far I’ve been bottling out of ‘advertising’ that this exists apart from having the web address on my business card and twitter header.

Over the next couple of weeks, there will be a steady stream of reviews appearing – I’m way behind on them but am going to restrict new purchases and reads until I get caught up. I’ve promised some authors a review and so absolutely owe it to them to get my finger out and get them published.

I’m also going to start to really flesh out the cookbook. I’ll be sharing my experiences of producing it and also sharing some of my favourite recipes with you all. Food has not been high on my list of priorities over the last few days – even now I’m trying not to go too green thinking about it – but my subconscious has put together a great structure so we’re ready to go once my body is back to playing the game!

Once I’ve got to grips with the other proposals that my subconscious has made I’ll tell you all about those too but that’s pretty much exhausted my reserves for today. Wishing you all a productive day.
